Formal unveiling of the commemorative Bath-Alkmaar stone plaque

12 May, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dear Friends and supporters of Bath-Alkmaar Twinning,

On Friday 12th May at 4.00pm the Mayor of Bath will be joining us for a small ceremony to formally unveil a new addition to Orange Grove next to the Guildhall: a commemorative stone plaque marking 75 years of our city’s link with Alkmaar.  The stone has been laid into the pavement, next to the Alkmaar Garden, where it will be viewed by tens of thousands of visitors a year: a permanent and public reminder of our international friendship.

You are most welcome to join us for this historic event.

The idea for the stone was stimulated by our friends in Alkmaar, who laid a similar stone last May next to the Bath Bridge by the famous Cheese Market square in the centre of Alkmaar. Our plaque is a mirror image of their design, marking another happy bond between our two cities.

We will be joined by representatives of the Alkmaar Rotary Club, who will be visiting their counterparts at the time, and the Mayor has kindly invited members of BATA to join him and the two Rotary Clubs for a reception from 4.30-5.30 in the Guildhall after the unveiling ceremony.

If you would like to come to the reception, please reply to let me know asap, as spaces are somewhat limited.  I will then send on to you the formal invitation from the Mayor of Bath.

I look forward to seeing some of you on May 12th.

Best wishes,
Chris Davies
Chairman
